giletti.com - September 2006
September 2: The new camera's here! The new camera's here!! (loosely adapted from Steve Martin's "The Jerk") I've taken some photos and movies to get the feel of the new camera. Margaret has been happy to polish her "cheese!" John is thrilled to have a camera that doesn't take so long to shoot the *^%$#@! picture. Postings to be done soon.August: Well, it didn't seem right to put all of this stuff under Australia anymore. The old pages are still there, they're just filed by year--see the links in the toolbar at the top.
Since I last made updates we moved back to New York and have settled into our temporary apartment. It's in midtown Manhattan so there is a lot of stuff near us--see the page about where we are.
On August 16th our much-used and sometimes-loved camera finally died. I ordered a new one and am waiting to get it in the mail, so in the meantime there are no new pictures.
We have been looking to buy a house and we have had a bid accepted but I won't post pictures until we are more certain that everything will actually come through. I'm just afraid of jinxing things. The closing is at the end of September so I will post pictures by the beginning of October. Unless something goes horribly wrong and we don't get the house, that is.
The House Cooling Party
The movers finished packing things up on Friday and we had people over to help "cool" the house on Saturday night. We borrowed folding chairs and a portable barbecue but for the most part people sat on the floor. We also tried to get people to drink up the contents of our liquor cabinet but it was mostly a no-go.
Vacation in Rome
We stopped in Rome on our way to New York and got to spend time with my sister, Ann, and her partner Tommaso. We stayed in the house of Tommaso's parents which is not far outside Rome and is in a lovely area and his family is even nicer.
Our first days in New York
Arriving in New York was a bit of a shock. The weather, the food, the cars on the wrong side of the road... Not to mention the adventures we had in getting settled in. We arrived at about midnight on a Sunday and found that there was no crib for Margaret, later that week Margaret took a tumble and scraped her face. But it's all worked out.
Where We Are
So we are in Manhattan but where is that exactly? What could possibly be in the area that you might have heard of?
Margaret in the Parks
Here I have photos of Margaret in various playgrounds: Central Park, Union Square, Hoboken, and Madison Square Park. she's at an age when she needs to get vigorous play time every day.
More Adventures with Margaret
These are the latest photos I've taken as Margaret and I are out and about.
